Early Childhood Education Teachers’ Readiness Level on the Implementation of Information and Communication Technology Based Learning in Klang District

Abstract

This study aims to examine the level of readiness of early childhood education teachers towards the implementation of information and communication technology (PBTMK) based learning in terms of knowledge and skills. This study was conducted quantitatively using a survey questionnaire. A total of 45 early childhood education teachers in Klang District, Selangor, were selected to be the respondents of the study. The research data were analyzed descriptively to explain the level of readiness of teachers in PBTMK in terms of knowledge and skills. The findings of the study showed that the level of readiness of teachers in terms of knowledge showed the highest mean value of 4.31, while the level of readiness of teachers in terms of skills showed the lowest mean value of 4.20. The implications of this study show that the level of readiness of early childhood education teachers towards the implementation of information and communication technology learning (PBTMK) in terms of knowledge and skills affects children’s learning. The results also found that the level of readiness of teachers in terms of knowledge and skills in PBTMK is positive, where the use of ICT is crucial to improve the quality of teaching and facilitation while attracting children to learn in the classroom.

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji tahap kesediaan guru pendidikan awal kanak-kanak terhadap pelaksanaan berasaskan pembelajaran teknologi maklumat dan komunikasi (PBTMK) dari aspek pengetahuan dan kemahiran. Kajian ini dijalankan secara kuantitatif dan berbentuk kajian tinjauan yang menggunakan soal selidik. Seramai 45 orang guru pendidikan awal kanak-kanak di Daerah Klang, Selangor dipilih untuk menjadi responden kajian. Data kajian telah dianalisis secara deskriptif bagi menjelaskan tahap kesediaan guru dalam PBTMK dari aspek pengetahuan dan kemahiran. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan tahap kesediaan guru dari aspek pengetahuan adalah menunjukkan nilai min tertinggi iaitu 4.31, manakala tahap kesediaan guru dari aspek kemahiran menunjukkan nilai min terendah iaitu 4.20. Implikasi kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa tahap kesediaan guru pendidikan awal kanak-kanak terhadap pelaksanaan pembelajaran teknologi maklumat dan komunikasi (PBTMK) dari aspek pengetahuan dan kemahiran memberi kesan kepada pembelajaran kanak-kana. Hasil kajian juga mendapati bahawa tahap kesediaan guru dari aspek pengetahuan dan kemahiran dalam PBTMK adalah positif di mana penggunaan TMK sangat penting untuk meningkatkan kualiti pengajaran dan pemudahcaraan disamping menarik perhatian kanak-kanak untuk belajar di dalam kelas.
